Roskilde and Taormina Resolutions In 2003 EFAD members agreed the Roskilde Resolution. Since then EFAD has made significant progress towards achieving the aims of the resolution (highlighted items have already been achieved):
1. Agree a description of the role of a dietitian working in Europe 2. A minimum qualification of a 3 year degree, benchmarked at a defined level, with an Education Credit Transfer System (ECTS) 3. Agree a European Dietetic Benchmark Statement, including a practical placement benchmark, for the education of dietitians in Europe 4. Set benchmark for teachers of dietetics 5. Agree a common “language”, by defining any technical terms used 6. National registration of dietitians to protect the title “dietitian” (local) 7. Consideration should be given to registration as a European dietitian At the 2007 General Meeting of EFAD, held in Taormina, Italy, delegates from the 20 member associations present agreed that a new resolution, building on the aims already established by the Roskilde Resolution, was needed.
The resulting Taormina Resolution aims to:
1. To set a benchmark for teachers of dietetics and quality indicators for practice education 2. To define European Dietetic Competencies and prioritise Life Long Learning 3. To agree a common language by defining technical terms for practice education EFAD together with the DIETS Thematic Network will work towards meeting the aims of the Taormina resolution.
